The brief
Orb Rope Access was tasked with the full de-vegetation of a bottle oven at the Gladstone Pottery Museum. The primary objective was to help maintain and preserve the condition of this historic structure within the Stoke area, ensuring it remains safe for the future.
The building
The work was carried out on one of the iconic bottle ovens at the Gladstone Pottery Museum in Stoke-on-Trent. As a significant piece of industrial heritage, the structure required a careful approach to avoid damage during the maintenance process.
The work
Rigging the unique shape of the bottle oven was not straightforward. It required experienced technicians and a significant amount of planning and communication to ensure a secure setup. Ultimately, the team devised a safe system of work that allowed the rigging to be accomplished effectively.
The project was further complicated by the time of year. Adverse weather conditions meant the technicians had to work through snow, sleet, and ice. Despite these difficult elements, the team remained safe throughout, and the works were continued without delay.
Benefits to the client
The project was a success for the conservation of the site. By removing the damaging vegetation, we helped preserve the integrity of the kiln. The client benefited from a professional service that managed both the complex access requirements and the challenging weather conditions safely and efficiently.
